Sometimes it pays to be a fence sitter. The Brewers were relatively quiet during the winter meetings but now they’ve given fans an early Christmas present by bringing former Royals’ ace Zach Greinke to town. This was shortly after the team trade for Shawn Marcum in what’s turning out to be a power shift from the American League to the National League. Alicedes Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi all were shipped to Kansas City in exchange for Greinke, Yuniesky Betancourt and some cash. Brett Lawrie was sent to Toronto for Shawn Marcum.
This definitely presents a power shift in the NL Central. The Reds and Cardinals would have probably been most people’s favorites but now the Brewers have forced themselves into that mix. It’ll also be interesting to see what effect this has on the value of Brewers tickets. Still, if the price for a winning team is a little bit more cost at the ticket booth, I’m all for it.
