At this point, the Brewers may have the worst farm system in the major leagues although the price is probably worth it after dealing for Shawn Marcum and Zach Greinke. Now, the Brewers have a gutted system and that’s why it’s interesting that a 2004 draft pick can nab the top spot. Mark Rogers is now the Brewers number one prospect and after a solid season at Double-A and a cub of coffee with the Brewers, he’s major league ready of course there’s some guys in his way. At this point, all of his injuries are a concern so they’ll probably pitch him out of the Triple A rotation.
Number two is a 2007 draft pick, Cody Scarpetta. Another pitcher, Cody had a nice season for Brevard County in which he struck out 142 times in 128 innings. Scarpetta has been on the 40 man for a while so he’s going to run out of options in 2011 so the Brewers are going to have to make a decision on him pretty soon.
There’s another pitcher at number three. Wily Peralta started the season at High A but then had eight starts at Double A where he held his own. He has a projected MLB debut date of 2012 so this is a kid that’s pretty close to major league ready. Scooter Gennett (top position player, still a few years away as an infielder) and Kentrail Davis (2009 first round pick, outfielder who’s a couple of years away) round out the top five.
