Shaun Marcum had a tough postseason and it continued in game six. The pen was also complicit in the 12-6 loss that eliminated the Brewers from the playoffs. Marcum gave up four runs and he only pitched into the second inning. Chris Narveson was then shelled for five runs in 1 2/3 innings. Kameron Loe and K-Rod also gave up runs in the loss.
The offense was better then game five but they still got doubled up. Jonathan Lucroy, Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart all hit home runs. Jerry Hairston went two for four with two runs.
So ends the Brewers season. It was a great run and I want to thank the Brewers for an awesome season. Get your Brewers tickets as early as you can because maybe 2012 will be the year.
The Brewers lost game five and it was a pretty ugly game. Zach Greinke had a mediocre start and gave upfive runs runs, the pen yielded a few as well and then the offense only managed to put up a single run. Greinke pitched 5 2/3 and he gave up the five runs and just two of those were earned. Marco Estrada was the only guy who got tagged and he gave up two runs in his inning of relief.
Corey Hart had three hits and he drove in the lone run. Jonathan Lucroy went two for three and he scored the lone run. The Brewers did have some chances and they were one for either with RISP. The four errors also didn’t help.
Now it’s all up to Shaun Marcum, who hasn’t a good start this entire post season. Let’s all cross our fingers.
Randy Wolf got it done and the Brewers were able to tie up their series with the Cardinals two games to two. Randy Wolf gave up a pair of home runs early but then he settled down and ended up throwing seven solid frames. He gave up the two runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. K-Rod and John Axford then took over and threw a shutout inning each to finish up the 4-2 win.
Jerry Hairston put the Brewers on the board with an RBI double in the fourth. Yuniesky Betancourt then singled Hairston home to tie the game. Ryan Braun then gave the Brewers the lead in the fifth with an RBI single and Rickie Weeks scored an insurance run in the sixth on an error. Nyjer Morgan, Ryan Braun and Jerry Hairston all had two hits in the win.
Game five is tomorrow. Zach Greinke picked up the win in game one but he wasn’t on top of his game. Let’s hope he’s better tomorrow and the Brewers can go back to Milwaukee with a series lead.
For the first time in the playoffs, the Brewers are down in a series. Yovani Gallardo gave up four runs in the first inning and while the Brewers creeped back into the game, they never bridged that gap. If you’re a half glass full person, the good news is Gallardo did throw five innings so the bullpen wasn’t taxed too much. LaTroy Hawkins, Takashi Saito and Chris Narveson all threw shutout innings each to keep the Brewers in the game.
Mark Kotsay belted a solo home run in the third inning of the 4-3 loss. Yuniesky Betancourt went two for four and he drove in a run. Six hits isn’t going to cut it so the Brewers are going to have to do better.
Game four is now huge. It’ll be Kyle Lohse against Randy Wolf. Big, big game with the Brewers down two games to one.
Shawn Marcum failed to get it done and the Cardinals tied things up with the Brewers one game to one. The Cardinals scored two in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth before the Brewers even got on the board. Marcum lasted just those four innings but the bullpen struggled as well. Marco Estrada gave up a pair of runs while Kameron Loe gave up four runs. Not a good game and it was the Brewers first home loss of the playoffs.
The final was 12-3 and all three came on home runs. Prince Fielder hit a solo home run, his third of the post season. Rickie Weeks belted a two run shot, his first long ball.
That sets up a huge game three in St. Louis. Yovani Gallardo can hopefully pull off a third straight gem while the Cardinals will throw Chris Carpenter.
It was a shootout but the Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the NLCS. Zach Greinke didn’t have his best stuff but it was good enough for the win in the 9-6 contest. Greinke did manage to go six innings but he gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts. From their, the triumvirate of Saito/K-Rod/Axford got it done and they shutout the Cardinals the rest of the way.
The Brewers got most of their runs via the long ball. Ryan Braun mashed again and he went two for four with a home run, four RBIs and two runs. Yuniesky Betancourt also went yard as did Prince Fielder. Betancourt and Jerry Hairston had two runs while Fielder drove in a pair.
Shawn Marcum gets a chance to make up for his NLDS beat down and he could help the Brewers move on. Let’s hope he can bounce back and get the job done.
The Brewers moved on!! It took ten innings and a walk off RBI single by Nyjer Morgan but they’re now one step closer to their first World Series championship. Carlos Gomez belted a one out single and then he stole second base to set up the RBI single.
Of course it didn’t help that John Axford gave up a trying run in the ninth that sent the game into extra frames. Yovani Gallardo pitched six solid innings and he gave up just a solo home run. Takashi Saito and K-Rod pitched shutout innings each before Axford gave up the ninth inning run. Of course Axford pitched a shutout tenth inning and he picked up the win.
Nyjer Morgan went two for five with a run and an RBI in the win. Ryan Braun had another nice game and he went two for three with a walk and a run.
Next up are the Cardinals. The Brewers will get to keep home field advantage so game one will be right here. Congrats on making it to the NLCS Brewers.
The Brewers couldn’t get it done in game four either. The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the first and while the Brewers made a game out of it, the closest they got was four runs back. Randy Wolf didn’t last very long and he was tagged for seven runs on eight hits in just three frames. Chris Narveson also had a tough time and he gave up a pair of home runs and three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Carlos Gomez went two for three with a two run home run. Yuniesky Betancourt also had a nice game and he went three for four with three runs. Overall, the Brewers were one for thirteen with runners in scoring position so they had their chances in this one.
It will all come down to Friday. Yovani Gallardo got it done in game one. Let’s hope he and the bats can pull this one out.
Well, the Brewers will have to wait another day to celebrate their NLCS berth. Shawn Marcum was hammered in his first playoff start of the season in a game that the Brewers were never in. He gave up two in the first, one in the third and then he was credited with four of the five runs the Diamondbacks scored in the fifth inning. The pen did a decent job in this one but a seven run deficit is one that’s usually a little tough to come back from.
Corey Hart accounted for the lone run with a solo shot in the third inning. Other then that, the Brewers managed just two more hits and two walks. Time to get back on track Brew Crew.
Randy Wolf throws tomorrow in game four. Joe Saunders throws for the Diamondbacks. I’m not feeling really comfortable right now and now that the game is hostile territory, we could be looking at a more drawn out series then I thought.
This home field advantage things seem to be working because the Brewers took a 2-0 lead over the Diamondbacks as they head to Phoenix just one game away from the NLCS. This one got a little scary though because the Brewers jumped to a 4-1 lead only to see the Diamondbacks tie it up. Then a five run sixth turned out to be the difference.
Zach Greinke didn’t have his best stuff but it was good enough. He saw three balls leave the park and he gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings. The pen was rock solid though and four relievers pitched a shutout inning each. Takashi Saito picked up the win and John Axford pitched a shutout ninth with two strikeouts.
Ryan Braun once again got it done at the plate. He went three for four with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs. Corey Hart singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice. Rickie Weeks tripled and drove in a run.
Shawn Marcum throws in game three on Tuesday. It’d be nice if they could just wrap this up and take a break.
