The Brewers were down 3-2 until Kevin Mench hit a two run homerun to give the Brewers the lead. Combine that with some great pitching out of the pen and the end result is a 4-3 Brewers win.
Chris Capuano wasn’t bad and despite not getting a decision, he struck out six in five innings. The pen was great though. Five relievers combined for four shutout innings with Francisco Cordero striking out two in the ninth to close it out and pick up the save. The win went to Brian Shouse and ironically he pitched to only one batter, it just happened to be the last guy in the sixth.
Other then Mench, Johnny Estrada had a nice game at the plate. He went two for three with a double and two runs.
Jeff Suppan makes his Brewer debut tomorrow and he faces a tough Jason Schmidt. It sure would be nice to pull out the sweep. Then again, didn’t the Brewers come out of the gate great last year? Oh well, you take the wins when you can get them.
